Who we are/our values

We are a growing movement of Jews in the UK seeking to end our community’s support for apartheid, occupation and genocide, and to mobilise it in the struggle for dignity, freedom and democracy for all Palestinians and Israelis.

Our name, meaning ‘We will stand’ in Hebrew, reflects our steadfast commitment to stand up for what we know to be right. It emphasises our dedication to standing alongside Palestinians, while connecting to the teachings that drive our activism.

Na’amod was first founded in 2018. Following a period of reflection after its initial few actions, the group formally launched in 2019 and became a powerful voice uniting Jews behind its message of opposition to occupation. In 2026 our movement is now approaching 1000 members, as well as many supporters and allies.

We stand on the shoulders of giants

From organising boycotts of Nazi goods to the Battle of Cable Street, Jews in the UK have a proud history of organising for our people’s safety and freedom, often in defiance of official communal organisations. These experiences of fighting our own oppression led many amongst our ancestors and elders to organise as Jews for the rights of others – joining the Spanish Civil war, picketing the South African Apartheid embassy, campaigning for refugees in the UK, and – for generations now – organising to end the Israeli occupation.

Continuing this legacy, we want our community to reaffirm the principle of b’tselem elohim (that we are all created in God’s image). We are motivated by the call to not stand idly by the blood of our neighbour. The dehumanisation of Palestinians and the justification of their oppression by people who claim to represent British Jewry is an affront to everything we were raised to believe through our Jewish education.

Our Membership

Our members reflect the diversity and inclusivity of Jews in the UK:

  • We welcome members of all observances, denominations and backgrounds.
  • We celebrate the diversity of our membership and are inclusive of Jewish people who face additional oppressions, including Jews of colour; LGBTQI+ Jews; disabled Jews; Jews by choice, Jews from interfaith families, women and non-binary Jews.
  • We live across the United Kingdom and span all age groups.

Regardless of our backgrounds, we are all inspired by our longstanding Jewish tradition of championing the rights of oppressed people, everywhere.

We are the future of the Jewish community in Britain. We will not stay silent as Israel dispossesses Palestinians of their land, freedom and rights, and violently suppresses all efforts to challenge an unjust status quo.

Our Message

Occupation and apartheid are a moral crisis.

Israel occupies the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza, and commits crimes of apartheid throughout the territory.

Occupation and apartheid are not just immoral and illegal, but are an affront to fundamental Jewish values of equality and human dignity. No Palestinian or Israeli deserves the status quo, yet it will continue and worsen until these unjust systems are brought to an end.

We have a responsibility to take action

We care deeply about what happens in the region – many of us have spent time there and have deep bonds of friendship and family ties with Israelis and Palestinians. Our power to change things, however, lies here in the UK.

Our Jewish communal institutions have perpetuated the moral crisis of occupation and apartheid by supporting those that enforce it. This happens directly and indirectly, through distorted words as well as deceptive silences, by inaction no less than action.

Meanwhile, both British Jewish communal organisations and Israeli governments continue to instrumentalise Jews in the UK to shield Israel from criticism.

Our struggles are intertwined

Na’amod rejects the idea that Jewish safety is only possible whilst Palestinians are oppressed We recognise that our liberation is bound up with the liberation of others, rather than in competition. We do not need to oppress others to feel safe, and work to build bridges and stand in solidarity against all systems of racism and discrimination.

Now is the time to take a stand

We have collectively lost sight of the values that underpin our faith and our identity. Jews in the UK must embrace our rich moral tradition of tzedek u’mishpat (righteousness and justice) to avert this crisis and restore the moral foundations of our community.

We must now come together and take the courageous action needed to bring UK Jewish support for the occupation and apartheid to an end. Our community should stand for dignity, freedom and democracy for all.

Our Values

We are Jewish

We are a vibrant and inclusive Jewish community. We welcome Jews of all observances, denominations and backgrounds, including Jews of colour, Jews by choice and Jews from secular or interfaith families.

We stand against the occupation and apartheid

We stand against both Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza and the Golan Heights and a system of violence and discrimination amounting to apartheid.

We are united

We acknowledge and respect our differences, but we focus on what unites us: our conviction that Israel’s ongoing oppression of Palestinians is a moral crisis, and our determination to end British Jewish support for it.

We are committed to collective liberation

We stand against all forms of oppression—Islamophobia, racism, patriarchy, classism, ableism, homophobia, and transphobia—knowing that our struggles are interconnected, and none of us are free until all of us are free.

We hold each other up

We are a safe, trusting and non-judgemental community

We are honest

We embody our values in public, speak truth to power, and own our mistakes to repair and grow.

We are courageous

We stand in the noble and effective tradition of nonviolent direct action, knowing that creative and risk-taking protest is the necessary response to this moral crisis

We are grassroots

We are a movement led by volunteers, with the role of any staff being to facilitate that.

We are not alone

We are part of the global resistance to occupation and apartheid, and stand hand in hand with individuals, organisations and movements across the diaspora and in Israel/Palestine.
